Great transformations often begin just like a dandelion in early spring. They don’t start with rigid, heavy structures, but with small, resilient seeds carrying a blueprint for life. When the wind catches them, they scatter across valleys and watersheds, landing in diverse soils to sprout fresh, vibrant ecosystems wherever they touch the ground.

This organic wisdom lies at the heart of an inspiring global movement: the Dandelion Strategy. Spearheaded by systemic thinker Joe Brewer and the Design School for Regenerating Earth, this vision is born from a profound sense of what is possible when human communities align with the logic of nature. The goal is as beautiful as it is vital: to birth at least 1,000 Bioregional Learning Centers (BLCs) by 2035, creating places where humanity learns how to ecologically and socially heal the very earth that sustains us. A BLC isn’t a traditional school building. It is a regional hub—a living classroom—where local communities, farmers, overheads, and changemakers come together to learn how to ecologically and socially restore their specific landscape. The Proeftuin for Transieversnelling is one of those BLC’s.

Structuring the Flow: Nutrients for Local Watersheds

To make this planetary vision thrive, resources must circulate just like water through a living ecosystem. Rather than funding top-down institutions, the goal is to direct vital support straight into the hands of the local communities doing the groundwork:

  • Activation & Seed Funding: Giving local grassroots teams the financial breathing room to start organizing their communities.

  • Infrastructure & Land: Funding actual land acquisitions, ecological corridors, and the physical spaces needed for long-term stewardship.

  • Living Wages: Ensuring that the dedicated human beings—the weavers holding the shovel and tending the soil—can sustain themselves while doing this vital work.

The ultimate vision is a planetary network of nodal clusters. These BLCs won’t stand alone; they will actively share knowledge, tools, and digital infrastructure across borders. Already, prototype funding has successfully flowed into regenerative territories like Barichara, Colombia, and the Cascadia bioregion. The momentum is real.

2026: The Year of the Pilgrimages

How do you scatter these dandelion seeds? Through movement and human connection. In 2026, the strategy moves from paper to the soil through two major bioregional activations. The first pilgrimage moved through the vast Mississippi Basin. This coming autumn, the journey arrives in Western Europe and the Mediterranean. These activations are designed to wake up the bioregional imagination of local teams, inspiring them to see their landscapes not through artificial political borders, but through the natural boundaries of water, soil, and heritage.

Planting Seeds in the North Sea Delta

Here in our own corner of the world, we are feeling the wind of this movement. As we prepare to host this inspiring global exploration this coming autumn, we recognize that our local “living lab” is part of this grand, nested fabric.

Earth organizes and regenerates itself in watersheds. When we look at our rivers, we don’t see divisions—we see our lifelines. We see the trade, the water we drink, and the agriculture that feeds us.

Our upcoming gathering isn’t just a meeting; it’s a mutual sensing journey. It’s an exploration for global pioneers to see how we, as co-stewards, are already grounding these regenerative principles into the unique, wet, and interconnected landscape of the North Sea Delta.

We are cultivating the soil. The seeds are ready to fly. And if the Dandelion Strategy succeeds, the financial flows of the world will finally start moving toward the people who hold the shovel.
